Higonokami VG-10 Warikomi NAGAO KANEKOMA 100mm Silver

Nagao Kanekoma Higonokami Knife – VG10 Warikomi 80mm (Silver Saya)

Description:
Nagao Kanekoma knives originate from Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, the birthplace of traditional Japanese blacksmithing around the 20th year of the Meiji era. The craft of forging blades began here, and over time, the famous Higonokami folding knife was born.

In 1897, merchant Tasaburo Shigematsu brought back a folding knife from Kagoshima with a tail-like lever, which inspired Miki’s blacksmiths—including the Nagao family—to recreate and refine the design. Unlike the typical single-bevel Japanese blades of that era, Higonokami knives adopted a double-bevel structure, making them practical and versatile.

By 1902, the Higonokami Knife Association was formed, peaking with over 40 companies and 200 craftsmen producing these knives. Their popularity was so widespread that even Emperor Taisho owned one. However, as imitations and modern alternatives rose in the mid-20th century, most workshops ceased production—leaving Nagao Kanekoma Seisakusho as the only remaining official maker of authentic Higonokami knives today.

This particular version is forged with VG10 “Warikomi” steel, offering outstanding sharpness, edge retention, and durability, encased in a stainless steel handle with a stylish silver saya (flip cover).
