Higonokami Aogami NAGAO KANEKOMA Tsuchime 100mm
Description
Nagao Kanekoma – Authentic Higonokami Folding Knife (Blue Steel Warikomi, Tsuchime Finish)
Brand Heritage
Nagao Kanekoma comes from Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, the birthplace of Japan’s traditional iron-forging techniques. These methods first emerged around the 20th year of the Meiji era and marked a turning point for the region. It was here that craftsmen like Murakami-san and Komataro Nagao-san began forging blades not only for farming and tools, but also for everyday use.
The story of the Higonokami knife began in 1897, when trader Tasaburo Shigematsu returned from Kagoshima with a folding knife featuring a lever-like “tail” for easy opening. This design was revolutionary at the time, especially because it used a double bevel edge, very different from the single-bevel blades that dominated Japanese tradition. Inspired by the design, Nagao and other blacksmiths in Miki started producing their own versions.
Knife Overview
The authentic Nagao Kanekoma Higonokami folding knife continues this legacy. This model is hand-forged from Blue Steel (Aogami) Warikomi, a high-carbon steel prized for its ability to take on a razor-sharp edge and retain it. The blade features a Tsuchime (hammered) finish, a traditional surface texture that not only enhances its rustic beauty but also helps reduce food sticking if used for light cutting tasks.
